The correspondents and volunteers of UNTV Singapore underwent first aid training in line with Kuya Daniel Razon’s “Tulong Muna Bago Balita” advocacy (Rescue First Before News).

The community emergency preparedness programme which covered basic first aid skills, administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR, and fire safety training was led by the Singapore Civil Defense Force on Friday.

The primary importance of knowing the proper way of administering first aid treatment to save lives especially during unexpected situations was explained during the training.

RELATED: UNTV News and Rescue | Saving lives isn’t just a duty for us but a lifetime commitment

After the sit-down lecture, an actual application followed wherein every participant was given the opportunity to conduct emergency procedures.

Each of the twenty five participants received a certificate of training after the programme.

(Our training in basic first aid, we might need it at any given day as well as our training for CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and fire safety training.)

(At least before we gather news, we can help first to the ones in danger particularly here in Singapore.)

(Now I am not just a cameraman because I’ve undergone rescue training. This is not just an additional to my skill set but ability in helping those in emergency that needs first aid.)

“Public service is the heart of UNTV. Thank you for Kuya Daniel’s advocacy, we’re not only newsmen but we are also able to help and save lives,” senior correspondent Robert Navoa stated.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Civil Defense Force expressed their gratitude for the interest shown by the group to take part in their community emergency preparedness programme.

First aid skills are essential to us to be able to save lives because in UNTV, life recovery is more important than delivering news.

One of the 52 procession attendees in Quiapo getting some help from UNTV News & Rescue

MANILA, Philippines — UNTV News and Rescue has been on stand by since last night, ready to respond to emergency situations in the annual event in Quiapo.

Most of the people who sought medical attention were those who had foot injuries, experienced dizziness and high blood pressure from struggling through the congested crowd of devotees.

Many suffered injuries on their feet because most devotees walked bare foot.

The mid-day heat has caused a lot to experience blood pressure fluctuaction.

(I hit a metal in the church, I am afraid to get tetanus.)

Patient Jomar Bidonia said, “Na-ano ko tung kariton ng vendors. Sumusunod ako sa karo ng ano eh may vendor umakyat dun sa tulay.”

(I was hit by a food cart when I was following the procession.)

Despite an appeal from the authorities, there were still kids who got injured even though they were accompanied by guardians.

Rescue groups remind people who attained deep wounds on their feet, not to take it lightly and to immediately get an anti-tetanus vaccine from the nearest health center.

Dr. Christian Ramos of DOH said, “Pag dating sa bahay, huhugasan sasabunin then after sabunin, i-betadine siya o lagyan ng gamot.”

(Once they arrived in their house, wash the wound with soap and water and put some anti-bacterial.)

A total of 52 patients on Monday were able to be serviced by UNTV News and Rescue team at the Quiapo procession.
